I think the book is a valuable addition for anyone with a casual interest in the Civil War in Georgia, a Civil War scholar or to someone who wishes to visit any of the hundreds of places described. I found the guide easy to use, which is very important to a public historian who needs to have information at their fingertips. I also found the entire boo interesting to read and the evocative photographs are very helpful in giving a preview for the traveler or as a substitute for visiting some of the places. The selected period photographs are also well chosen. I look forward to using The Civil War in Georgia: An Illustrated Travelers Guide in the years to come. — Billy Townsend, Chief Historian, Georgia Department of Natural Resources

The Civil War in Georgia meets a long standing critical need for an accurate, yet interesting and readable guide to the multitude of historical sites with which this state is so bountifully blessed. For the first time, clear directions for locating and enjoying all significant battlefields, historic houses, museums, cemeteries and memorial parks are contained in a single convenient and well-organized volume. The historical information is precise and accurate, without subjecting the reader to an excess of tedious historical and military minutia, and the work is enhanced by an excellent set of historical photographs, punctuated by the fine contemporary work of the photographer. —William R. Scaife, Civil War Author & Board Chairman, Kennesaw Mountain Historical Association

I am pleased that there is now an up-to-date and complete listing of all the Civil War sites and research resources in our state. This important chapter of our national and regional history fascinates people from around the world. The book will be a good resource for anyone interested in the American Civil War. —Rick Beard, Executive Director, Atlanta History Center
