Scarlet Tanager

A common summer resident at the park and throughout Virginia's pine and oak forests, Piranga olivacea is the only North American red bird with black wings and a black tail. Females are yellow-green. During nesting season, the striking male may sing his repetitive robinlike warble from the top of a dead tree.
