Eastern Hemlock

The graceful hemlock (Tsuga candensis) is a shade-loving tree of cool, moist ravines and stream banks. The slow-growing evergreen takes 20 to 40 years to begin producing seeds and may reach immense proportions. The 300-year-old trees on Stone Mountain Trail could live to be as old as 1,000 years.
