About the Editors

George Benz is Chief Research Scientist at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Director of the Southeast Aquatic Research Institute, and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. A native of New England, Benz received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from The University of Connecticut and was employed for five years as a freshwater fisheries biologist with the State of Connecticut Bureau of Fisheries. He subsequently received a Ph.D. from The University of British Columbia, where he studied parasites of fishes. His research on the parasites of fishes has taken him from the Arctic to the tropics, and he has authored numerous research papers and review articles. His current research activities include a study of the parasites of freshwater mussels, an investigation of turtle population dynamics, and investigations of the parasites of cartilaginous fishes of the Sea of Cortez and the Arctic.

David Collins is Curator of Forests at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He holds a B.A. in Biology from the State University of New York at Albany. Collins’ special passion is the ecology of freshwater turtles, and he has conducted field studies in New York, Ohio, and Tennessee. He is co-chair of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association Chelonian Advisory Group and a working member of the IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group.
