Some of the wildlife in Everglades National Park has become a bit too bold when it comes to helping themselves to your picnic supplies. Don't leave food exposed anywhere in the park and especially not in any of the parking areas. Turning your back for even a moment on an open bag of potato chips or cookies can result in a visit from an unwelcome diner. Black birds, crows, blue jays, and sea gulls have learned that thievery sometimes pays off better than foraging.
At night, raccoons will crawl through any car window left open. They'll also rummage through coolers and baitwells in boats on trailers and docked in the marina. Don't leave any food outside at night, and don't assume that food kept in a cooler is safe.
