False Indigo

Gardeners prize this native plant grown at Adkins Arboretum for its indigo-blue flowers in spring, its attractive silver-green foliage in summer, and its interesting dark seedpods in fall and winter. False indigo (Baptisia australis), also called blue indigo and wild indigo, puts down deep roots that give it a formidable toughness and tolerance to drought.
