Mountain Ash

This small deciduous tree grows in open meadows and in the woods on Pine Mountain. Its flat-topped clusters of small white flowers bloom after the leaves appear. In fall, clusters of red berries develop. Sorbus americana has a more extensive range in northern climes, but in Virginia it is found only in the mountains.
