Least Bittern

The least bittern (Ixobrychus exilis) is a small, long-legged bird that frequents the marshes of the Choptank Wetlands. This secretive wader can disappear among the reeds quickly; a watcher is lucky to catch even a glimpse. The soft "coo-coo-coo" of the bittern is equally hard to detect.
